This month, the elementary counselors would like to focus on the importance of thankfulness and kindness. As the holiday season approaches, we should all step back and recognize what we have to be thankful for. Raising a thankful child can present its challenges at times, as it requires a balance between giving to our children, and knowing how and when to draw the line. Parents can navigate this balancing act by demonstrating their own thankfulness.
Sincerely,
The Dunlap Elementary Counselors
- Tell your children thank you
- Model thankfulness through your interactions with others
- Instead of making a wish list, make a grateful list
- Make volunteering a family activity
- Set clear limits when making a shopping trip. “Today you can pick one new book.”
- Encourage your children to see the priceless gifts in life. Make note of health, happiness, family, and friendship. Put value on relationships, not things
- Make kind gestures without the expectation of anything in return. Your kids will notice
Sincerely,
The Dunlap Elementary Counselors
