Planning for PARCCWhat is PARCCPARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) is the new state standardized test that has replaced the ISAT. This is the second year our students in grades 3rd-12th will complete it. This is a computer based test and taken twice a year. It aligns with the common core standards and is intended to better assess student’s knowledge. Your child’s teacher and school have been working hard to help prepare your child for the upcoming tests. However, it takes a village! Below are some strategies you can implement at home to help prepare your child for test day.

Tips and Strategies for helping your child with PARCC
Test Preparation
Week Before The Test:
- Encourage your child to study ahead of time. Review test terms, such as write, drag, select and explain.
- Don’t cram the night before. Have your child get a good night sleep.
- Make sure your child is at school on time. This will help them remain calm.
- Have your child eat a healthy, light breakfast. This provides energy at test time.
- Encourage your child to wear their favorite outfit. Your child should pick a comfortable outfit that makes them feel confident.
- Relax– Remind your child to take deep breaths before a test.
Testing Attitude-
Help your child build a positive attitude about tests by modeling and encouraging them to demonstrate the skills below.
Be Positive
- Expecting your child to do well will help them do well. Encourage them to think positive thoughts.
- Such as “I’m proud of how hard you studied!” Your compliments will help them find their positive self talk!
- It’s normal to be worried about tests. But if your child seems too anxious, ask what they are afraid of? Help reassure them.
- Encourage positive self talk. Such as “I can do it” or “I am smart!”This will help them stay calm and think positive.
