You may not know this, but the Dunlap Elementary Counseling Team is the absolute best. I am honored to be part of such a great team. We will each be taking turns to teach weekly social-emotional lessons for all kids during the school closure. Take a look at Week 1 for grades K-2!
Wow, Ridgeview Foxes, what an interesting day today has been! I hope you've enjoyed digitally connecting with your teachers, principals, and maybe even your classmates. You may not know this, but I'm on this eLearning adventure with you. As a parent myself, my kids and I have been figuring out how to make learning just as fun at home as it is at school. One of my biggest tips for parents: Routine, routine, routine! Each household will look a little different. My kids are 6, 3, & 2. So, our schedule has a little more play and a little less screen time than that of older kids. We started our morning with some YouTube movement videos such as Cosmic Kids! (Hopefully it warms up soon so we can move outside instead.) We then moved on to more structured learning at our designated "school space." Ours is the kitchen table. Where is your school space in your house? After that, we got creative with crafts and playdough--making a mess can be a great way to learn! Counselor ConnectConnecting with all 430 students has pushed me to be a little extra creative! Your teachers will now have a Counselor Connect Google slide somewhere on their Canvas (you can also click it above). Below is my "Counseling Schedule" for the next few weeks. Hopefully this will provide you with resources and ideas for your social-emotional learning at home!
Mondays: A brand new blog post with resources will be posted! Tuesdays: K-2nd Grade SEL Lesson posted Wednesdays: Social-Emotional Challenge Thursdays: 3-5th Grade SEL Lesson posted Fridays: New blog post of all the cool pictures kids send me throughout the week! Okay, okay...it's been a while since my last post. 2016 to be exact. With the district's roll out of one-to-one technology, ClassDojo, Google accounts, Canvas and other online learning platforms, my little website became a bit obsolete. However, we are facing challenges in our world and community, and I'm seeking a way to connect with families and students during our COVID-19 school closure. As it turns out, connecting all 430 RES families to my Canvas page is a little tricky. Which...brings me back to my blog! These current times can be a little scary for kids and parents. I'll be doing my best to use this platform as a way to provide relevant online social-emotional tools and engaging ways to communicate, encourage, and support one another during these next few weeks. I'll do my best to notify of updates via Ridgeview's Facebook page and ClassDojo. Stay safe and healthy out there! What is the Coronavirus? |
