October has been an eventful month here are RES! We began the month with an awesome International Fair put on by our PTO. I love seeing the diversity of our students at Ridgeview. We truly have a unique school, and it's great to see that celebrated.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. This coincides with another Nationally recognized initiative, Red Ribbon Week. Here at Ridgeview, we decided to combine the two ideas! Red Ribbon Week is all about making good choices for yourself and helping others. This seemed to fit right in with learning skills to prevent bullying. Our Red Ribbon Week focus is on helping peers, helping our community, and making healthy choices for our future. The theme for Red Ribbon Week is "Love Yourself".
In order to teach students how to help their community, we are going to be collecting toiletry items for a local women's shelter, Esther House. They are looking for donations of deodorant, tissues, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, and diapers (size 1, 2, or 3). Our goal is to collect 1,300 items (which I know we can do since last year we collected 1,250). We will be keeping track of our progress and will send it in to Kid President as part of SOCK-tober!
And no Red Ribbon Week Celebration would be complete without some dress up days!
Monday: Red Rally Day--Wear RED
Tuesday: Team Up Against Bullying--Team Sport Day
Wednesday: Healthy Choices=A Bright Future-- N eon Day
Thursday: Follow Your Dreams--Pajama Day
Friday: Show Good Character--Halloween (Kids will change at school)
